Bei all meinen Reisen nach Ägypten habe ich die Menschen dort als sehr gast-
freundlich und herzlich kennengelernt. Klar, so manch westlich geprägter
Mensch mag es auch als übertrieben und falsch oder gar als eine Belästigung
empfinden, aber ich denke, wenn man sich einmal vor Augen führt, wie
Muslime sich untereinander auch in “unserer” Heimat verhalten, nämlich
höflich, fröhlich und überschwenglich, wirft das ein anderes Licht auf die
Situation.
During all my trips to Egypt I got to know the people there as very hospitably
and cordially. Sure, some western minted people may feel this is exaggerated
and two-faced, or even as a nuisance, but I think, when you bring the picture
of how Muslims behave among themselves in "our" homeland to your mind,
indeed polite, cheerful and effusively, it puts a different view to the situation.
Nach offiziellen Angaben sind ca. 90% der ägyptischen Bevölkerung musli-
mischen Glaubens, ca. 10% christliche Kopten und ein „nicht erwähnenswerter
Anteil“ Juden. Weitere Religionen, wie z.B. Buddhismus, werden nicht erwähnt.
Da man also ein überwiegend islamisches Land bereist, sollte man sich m.E.
auch ein wenig mit den Gewohnheiten und Gebräuchen vertraut machen. Der

Other religions, such as Buddhism, are not mentioned. So as you are visiting a
majority Muslim country, I think, you should get at least a little familiar with
